Comp Sci Research in SJSU

Dr. Liu of SJSU will take some high school students to work on research projects in the field of computer science and computer engineering. Project areas include: Autonomous Robots, Computer Vision Algorithm for Autonomous Car, and more

After some extensive research and contact, we have finally gotten our first official research opportunity! Dr. Liu of SJSU (San Jose State University) is willing to take some high school students to work on research projects in the field of computer science and computer engineering. Project areas include: 1) Autonomous Robots (software and hardware): add sensors and control processing to the RC car platform, test the automatic navigation and obstacle avoidance 2) Computer Vision Algorithm for Autonomous Car (software only): working on deep learning models for 2D or 3D object detection in the autonomous car 3) Wearable Device (hardware and software): design wearable device for firefighter tracking and monitoring based on embedded systems 4) UAV for Wildfire Detection (hardware and software): build the UAV testbed for automatic wildfire detection 5) Data mining acceleration based on Intel OneAPI (software only) 6) Emergency Alert App design (iOS or Android) 7) Indoor Localization with Apple UWB (software and hardware) 8) Other projects if you have backgrounds in robotics, 3D printing, embedded system, Android/iOS or Python. Students can work together as a small team, conducting research or implementation in their selected or proposed area. Work can mostly be done remotely, including the hardware-based projects (although it may require some meet-ups). Time for research is flexible, with no minimum hours required for each week. However, there will be bi-weekly progress reports or meetings. After project completion, Dr. Liu will help your group submit your results to IEEE or ACM conferences as a "demo" or a "poster", or if it is good, a full research paper. Funding for conference registration and publication fees, as well as required devices or other hardware/software components can also be covered. *NOTE: This is a long term project, and Dr. Liu is only accepting students who want to do research for more than one year. Here is the google form for the application: https://forms.gle/oAfrsknPYk6CoRhp6 Please do not email Dr. Liu asking about the status of your application. Please also subscribe to the newsletter at https://www.youthresearchinstitute.org/ for more information and opportunities. Applications are due on May 1st, at 11:59 PM PST.
